Study with me, wherever you are!

Take your control and understanding to a higher level with this 3 day intensive course on colour theory and colour mixing.
With a technical, academic approach to colour, first, learn to accurately identify and mix colours using a reliable method that works every time.

Starting with a study of traditional colour theory we will produce our own colour charts and resources to use for future reference.
Then, we will use these charts to learn how to match colours accurately and reliably.

Through a series of exercises and lectures we will deepen our understanding of colour harmony and balance, finding out how and why colours affect one another in a piece of artwork.

Using simple methods, we will learn how to select a ‘palette’ of colours that will reflect the mood we want to evoke – and how to create paintings that sing!

Suitable for learners in all media. Some previous painting experience is helpful to get the most from this course.

How it works

Sessions will include slide lectures, live demonstrations, group chats and individual feedback. The workshops will run in small groups of no more than 16 people, just like a real workshop, they will operate in ‘real time’ for a whole day, just as though you had joined me in person.

We will meet live on Zoom at 10am for the first ‘class’ of the day. Then you will be given time to complete an exercise. You may upload your work to a private group chat where I will give feedback on each person’s work before the next session. You will all be able to see everyone’s feedback and can contribute your ideas as well. We will meet again on Zoom for the next part of the course after lunch. Each class will be recorded and available for participants to watch later if you are unable to join at that time.

Worried about studying online?

It’s ok– included in the course fee, we will offer remote IT support and guidance for anyone unsure of the technology involved (we figure that will be pretty much all of us!) and we’ll all have lots of fun and laughs as we work it out together. For those who don’t know him already, my lovely Mark is a freelance IT consultant specialising in online solutions for businesses. He offers remote technical support and training for businesses around the world – and now he’s going to help us all to learn together online! With your permission he can remotely access your PC or Mac and set everything up for you, then he’ll teach you how to use it.

It’s going to be brilliant! Before our first session, we’ll meet with coffee, cookies and computers for a practice session and simple tutorial on using the webinar programme. It’s all remarkably easy, I’m amazed at how quickly I’ve learned to use it!
