Painted this little 7x9” study from life on the Telford road last week. I set up my easel alongside the traffic and got stuck in!
"January Sun; a first encounter" Just finished this one of Mortimer forest near Ludlow, I have really enjoyed the colours in this piece
A study of dawn light in Crinan, Argyll
A small painting of my twin god daughters on the shore of a misty Loch Lomond
'A Year at Apley' exhibition is now open at the Creamery Cafe, Apley Farm Shop TF11 9EF. The exhibition comprises paintings of the Estate made over the last 12 months and is on display until 31st December 2012.
"Potatoe flowers at Stockton" I just loved the pretty purple flowers and the bright yellow fields behind the trees.
"Returning Home" A new painting from my year at the Apley Estate.
"Poppies at the Creamery" a happy summer image of the location of my fast approaching exhibition!
Spotted this tree a couple of months ago and I’ve been dying to paint it ever since - the thick paint on the blossom is like ice-cream, delicious!
Loved the big shadows cast down the hillside by the beech trees, just wanted to keep the rest simple…
Painted these little boats in the sunshine from the harbour beach in St Ives last weekend - it’s a terrible life, being a painter!
A cottage by the Worfe at Burcote - timeless!
A painting of Graham Manton walking along the terrace in January, I wanted to capture the light behind the tree shapes.
Oak tree portrait. Trying out some new paints - and liking them!
'Wait…'
Man and dog in anticipation of the birds…
View of Skye from the ‘refuge’ beach behind the cottage.
A glimpse of sunlight over the coast - at last!
Just returned from a week in a cottage on the west coast of Scotland. Managed to get out and paint on location a couple of times. I really enjoyed the process - made me paint more quickly because of the cold so the paintings have more energy than my studio work. Can’t wait to get out to Apley and do some more now that I have worked out the logistics of making oil paintings ‘en plein air’!
The latest of the Apley series and the last autumn colours (I think…).
This features a clump of silver birch trees at the top of a valley in Apley Park known locally as ‘the horseshoe’. It is painted mostly with a palette knife to give the surface lots of buttery texture, great fun to make.
"Winscote Drive" Just finished this one. Playing with light as usual, can’t seem to help returning to this gold and green theme lately, guess that’s because I’m still painting autumn…winter pictures coming soon!…
